At MediaCast, we know the future of public relations rests in the hands of the next generation. That’s why our partnership with the University of Queensland’s Journalism and Communications Society means so much to us. As major sponsors, we see it as our role to share real-world insights and help prepare students for the media industry. Over the past few weeks, we participated in two events that let us do just that.
Citizen Journalism and Its Effect on Media

In September, our Director of Clients, People and Culture, Cavill Stone, spoke on a panel at the UQ Professional Networking event, tackling the topic of citizen journalism and its impact on media. Watching Cavill share her perspective so clearly and confidently was a proud moment for all of us. Her passion and deep understanding of the ever-changing media landscape were evident to everyone in the room.
The event was filled with aspiring journalists and communications professionals who were eager to dive into the industry. Being part of that energy and knowing we can help these talented students on their journey is what our partnership with UQ is all about.
Sharing the Practical Side of PR

In October, Amy Bramman, our Head of Delivery, spoke to our specialism in broadcast and led a PR Masterclass at UQ. Amy covered a lot of ground—from the ins and outs of radio days to what makes a TV pitch stand out and how to produce an enticing Video News Release. Seeing her share her knowledge with such passion and confidence made me realise again why our team is our greatest asset.
Personally, I prefer to stay out of the spotlight, but that’s what makes a strong team—knowing when to step back and let others lead. Amy stepped up, and it was fantastic to see her inspire the next generation of PR talent.
Committed to Mentorship and Growth
Over the last two semesters, both Amy and Cavill have also been involved in the UQ/CPRA Student Mentor Program, participating in one-on-one interviews with students, answering their burning questions and providing their best advice on breaking into the industry. Investing into future comms professionals has been a key focus for MediaCast in 2024 and it's been as rewarding for our team as we hope it has been for the students we've connected with!
For us, mentorship isn’t just about sharing what we know—it’s about investing in people. The enthusiasm we saw from students over the past few weeks makes us excited about the future of PR. We’re proud to be part of their journey and look forward to seeing them grow into the kind of professionals who will push our industry forward.
The future of PR is bright, and we’re here to support, guide, and cheer on these talented individuals every step of the way.
